We're Headed Off for an Oxford Education

AEC009

We’ve had great success with Oxford’s 1:72 scale line of diecast military aircraft, so it makes sense for us to dig a little deeper and offer their accompanying range of diecast military vehicles. Crafted in 1:76 scale, which is a smidgeon smaller than a traditional 1:72 scale vehicle, the Oxford military vehicle range offers loads of options for the discriminating collector, again designed to help build your war museum on a shoestring budget.

SP065

Most of the vehicles are priced less than $20, with several contenders weighing in at just $7, providing good value and choices not previously available to the military enthusiast. The first wave of sixteen soft skinned vehicles are expected to storm the beaches some time in June.

Unimax Puts the Bravo Back in Bravo Team

70004

When Unimax decided to discontinue their highly successful Bravo Team line of 1:18 scale plastic vehicles and figures back in 2012, we were stymied  The range sold well, and was the perfect entree for younger enthusiasts to get their hands on something big and beefy in the military arena. Fortunately, Unimax has done an about face and plans to relaunch the line beginning in May. The same WWII era vehicles previously available are being reintroduced, along with two separate figure packs — one German and one American — with each figure boasting 18 points of articulation and loads of weaponry. Keep in mind shipping costs have gone up considerably over the past twelve months, so the best way to ship these vehicles across the Continental US is with UPS Ground service. For collectors living outside the US, well, get ready to fork over some hefty dough in order to take delivery.

Hobby Master Pays Tribute to Boston

HA4202

In a roundabout fashion, Hobby Master is paying tribute to the city of Boston with its upcoming Douglas Boston Mk. IV light attack bomber (HA4202). Portraying a bomber that was attached to the RAF’s 18th Squadron deployed to Italy during late 1944-early 1945, the Boston is actually a derivative of the Douglas A-20 Havoc, which was originally built and intended for use with the French Air Force prior to their capitulation in 1940. The RAF agreed to take up the balance of the now-frustrated French order which was diverted to the UK, and the bombers were given the service name “Boston” with the further designation of “Mark I” or “Mark II” according to the earlier or later engine type. Look for the Boston to fly into history some time in August.

The Collectors Showcase Stomps the Competition

ELEPHANT Main

Every so often, we get blown away by some of the subjects created for the collecting community. For instance, have a look at The Collectors Showcase upcoming war elephants range, which is intended for use with their Romans: Claudian Invasion series. According to the manufacturer, two versions will be offered – one represents a Claudian mount complete with all the trimmings a Roman Emperor would wear into battle, while the other is a more typical Roman fighting elephant. These and other new introductions are slated to lumber on to the battlefield some time in late May.

Unimax ‘Flies Like an Eagle’

UNI85081

Pictures are finally circulating for Unimax upcoming 1:72 scale rendition of an F-15E Strike Eagle. Based upon a bird flown by the 391st Fighter Squadron, 366th Fighter Wing, out of Mountain Home AFB, Arkansas (#UNI85081), their first-ever Strike Eagle will come with a complete load out of air-to-ground and air-to-air weaponry, and boasts much the same hi-fidelity detail and features that has made its previous F/A-18s and F/A-14s hot amongst the diecast community. Painted in a dull grey low-vis camouflage scheme, look for the Strike Eagle to make a June sortie unless they’re called into action sooner.

War Master Checks in With Their Latest Creations

tk0032

Looking to stick to their bi-monthly release schedule, War Master is now showing off their latest batch of 1:72 scale goodies likely expected in June. Three German tanks were revealed on the manufacturer’s site, including a Panzer IV Ausf. G medium tank, Jagdpanzer IV L/70 tank destroyer and Tiger I heavy tank. More importantly, the company unveiled a neat-looking US M4 tractor with towable 155mm ‘Long Tom’ field gun, a nice little addition to anyone’s diecast military vehicle collection.

Also on display were two WWII piston-driven aircraft – a Japanese Ki-61 “Tony” fighter and a US Curtiss P-40N Warhawk, the latter bearing the famous tiger mouth on its fuselage. Affordable and attractively painted and packaged, the War Master range has become a staple among diecast enthusiasts and wargamers. We look forward to seeing even more new items in the months ahead.

A Black Cat Crosses Century Wings’ Path

CW001601

With Toy Fair all but a distant memory, we were beginning to wonder when Century Wings would announce its next project. According to our distributor, this Japanese-based model maker has announced that it will be offering yet another F-14 Tomcat, this time around painted in midnight black and bearing the markings of the US Navy’s VX-9 “Vampires” (#CW001601). Don’t get us wrong – Century Wing’s F-14s always seem to sell out, largely due to their incredible detail, relatively low production runs, and cult-like following. It’s just that it would be nice to see some new toolings appear at this stage in their life cycle, something dealers and fans have been requesting for quite some time. Look for a June arrival for the latest ‘Cat.

Falcon Tools Up the Kfir

FA729001

Long a staple of the Israeli Air Force, the Israeli Aircraft Industries Kfir multirole aircraft has certainly gone down in history as one of the most prolific warfighters of all times, a homegrown weapons platform that filled a design requirement by this small embattled nation. Now, Falcon Models plans on doing the aircraft justice with a 1:72 scale reproduction of the Kfir (#FA729001). Expected in the May/June time frame, the introductory model of the Kfir will likely be followed up by other schemes and variants, no doubt capitalizing on the success of this war winner.
