Yat Ming: Back In Business and Back in Stock Under a New Name

Some product lines seem to have nine lives. In the case of Yat Ming, several times we’ve counted them down and out, only to watch them rise from the ashes like a newborn Phoenix. That said, two of their highly prized 1:24 scale Presidential limousines are being offered again, and we should have them in stock and ready for sale by the end of the first week in February.

The pair includes this 1972 Lincoln limousine used to ferry President Ronald Reagan around Washington DC and other destinations, along with John F. Kennedy’s open-top 1963 Lincoln X-100 limousine, used, in rather sad fashion on the fateful day in Dallas on November 22nd, 1963.  Best of all, both vehicles still carry a retail price of just $69.99, no change from where they stood a year ago. Please note that these products are now being produced under the Lucky Die Cast banner.

Yat Ming Shutters its Doors

YM24068

As more and more model makers struggle to stay afloat, one long time veteran has decided to throw in the towel and call it a day. Effective this July, Yat Ming has decided to end all of its diecast modelmaking production and has already begun to sell off much of its remaining inventory. Presently, we stock their 1:24 scale historic transports and may bring in the rest of their 1:48 scale military aircraft since they are quite affordable, hefty, and make nice entry points into the diecast military market. It’s a shame model makers have had to resort to closing down operations as a result of rising labor costs, a downturn global economy and increasing pressure to maintain margins, and we wish them the best of luck.

The city of Dallas plans to memorialize the 50th Anniversary of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s death by holding ceremonies and other events aimed at commemorating the “life, legacy and leadership of President Kennedy.” You can find more information on the subject here:

To celebrate his legacy, The Motor Pool has several JFK’s automotive memorabilia in stock, including Yat Ming’s 1:24 scale replica of his 1963 Lincoln X-100 presidential limousine. We will also be restocking the Minichamps 1:43 scale replica – complete with figures – sometime in 2013, just as soon as the manufacturer offers them up again for shipment. Pre-orders for the Minichamps replica has been brisk, and we may not be able to offer them for general sale once they do arrive so if you’re interested in this piece of presidential history, now would be a good time to investigate it further.
