The Battle of Britain: Turning Lemons into Lemonade

Dornier

Although it may not look like much, salvage operators extricated a downed German Do 17 light bomber from its watery grave. Nestled in the muddy bottom of the English Channel, this unidentified bomber was reportedly shot down during the Battle of Britain around the latter half of 1940. According to researchers, this is the only surviving example of the rare Dornier Do 17z light bomber, which aviation museums worldwide have sought to add to their collection.  According to the Mirror, a UK-based publication, historians hope to restore this aircraft to pristine condition in approximately two years, and will likely be featured at the Duxford Museum. For more information on the rescue operation, visit this page.

Since Corgi first brought this matter to our attention, we presume that Corgi will likely produce a diecast replica of this particular Dornier in the not-too-distant-future.

Dragon Gases Up Their Armored Ranks, Aircraft and Space Vehicles

DRR60531

Finally, Dragon is showing signs of life with plans to roll out several eagerly awaited 1:72 scale armored pieces throughout the month of June. Their first German VK 45.02 (P)H Ausf. A Heavy Tank is already headed to the front lines (DRR60531) as is their second Ersatz M10 tank destroyer (#DRR60649). Several of their Panzer III medium tanks are reportedly not too far behind as is their second German VK 45.02 (P)V Ausf. A Heavy Tank (DRR60587).

DRW51017

Also expected is their 1:144 scale rendition of a USAF Lockheed U-2R Spy Plane, first announced way back in 2012 (#DRW51017). Nicknamed “Dragon Lady”, this all-black reconnaissance bird was attached to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing before being retired.

DRW56391

When the Shermans Come Rolling Along!

UNI85007

In honor of Memorial Day Weekend, we’ve drastically reduced the price of Unimax’ 1:16 scale M4A3 Sherman medium tank to an eye-popping $299.99 plus shipping (#UNI85007). That’s a whopping $200 off of our regular every day price. Remember, several of the previous vehicles in this series are easily fetching $1,000 or more in the after-market, and there’s no telling if this will be the last vehicle Unimax plans on offering as part of their over-sized Extreme Metal series. So, if price was always a consideration, it ain’t any longer, ’cause this is one deal that’s simply too good to pass up!

RIO Makes an Encore Performance

RIO4342

Recently, we lamented how Signature Models 1:18 scale line of G4 parade limousines were delayed yet again. On the plus side, we’ve just received our long awaited shipment of RIO 1:43 scale parade limousines, which had been on back order for several months. Three 1938 Mercedes Benz 770K limousines comprise the range, one depicting Field Marshal Erwin Rommel standing in a desert yellow command car (RIO4342), while the other two contain the Nazi leadership (RIO4064P and RIO4250P) and other figures.

All three models are available in extremely limited quantities and there’s no telling when they’ll be restocked by the manufacturer.

We’ve been impressed with the cavalcade of new aircraft coming out of Falcon, who has quickly become one of the leading manufacturers of diecast military aircraft.

The Internet Sales Tax: Will it Affect You?

Sales Tax

If, as many believe, the proposed “Internet Sales Tax” passes both houses of Congress some time in May, shoppers may have to pay an additional fee for purchasing products online. While this is certainly an inconvenience and affects customers even in “zero sales tax” states, there is a a silver lining to the law. Vendors who rack up sales of less than $1,000,000 per year are purportedly exempt from the ruling, while those doing more must collect the new sales tax. While we’re successful, having been at this for 13 years, our annual sales do not meet this sales tax threshold, meaning we would not have to collect sales tax for anyone residing outside of New York, where we are located. Other similar retailers may not be so fortunate depending upon their sales volume, so it may pay to check around before you buy if you’re looking to save some hard earned coin.
