Collectors Showcase Hauls Out a Crowd Favorite

PN

Sometimes, you just can’t get enough of a mean war machine. So says The Collectors Showcase, as they relaunch one of their all-time favorites, a Panther medium tank, later this summer. Two versions of the updated battle wagon will be offered, one painted in a scintillating autumn ambush dappled camouflage scheme and the other in a whitewashed winter cloak.

This time around, however, both vehicles will reportedly sport removable schurzen side armor skirts as well as turret-mounted MG42 machine guns. Look for both perennial favorites at the end of August.

Falcon’s Tiger Finds its Way Out of the Jungle

FA728001

Surprisingly, Falcon Models has become one of our most important brands, offering hyper-realistic aviation subjects at reasonable prices. We were therefore thrilled to take delivery of their latest tooling – a Grumman F-11 Tiger jet (#FA728001). Used sparingly during the Cold War, the Tiger is nevertheless an important addition to anyone’s military aircraft collection, demonstrating the transition from the so-called Century Series range of military aircraft to the world of modern era jets we see today.

Dragon Schedules Another Space Shot

50388

A few months back, we were informed that Dragon’s monstrous 1:72 scale Saturn V rocket had sold out, much to the chagrin of many a collector. Today, however, we were told that the ungainly Saturn V (DRW50388) was back in NASA’s cavernous Assembly Building and would be back on the launching pad this September. The price for this item has gone up by a few bucks but considering what you get for the price, this is one “black-and-white” elephant worth bagging before supplies are completely gone.

At long last, 1:72 scale armor buffs will soon be able to lay claim to an all-new Panzer III Ausf. N medium tank courtesy of Dragon Armor. No doubt more Panzer IIIs are in the pipeline, with several already scheduled to bolster their armored brethren later this month.

The Battle of Britain: Turning Lemons into Lemonade

Dornier

Although it may not look like much, salvage operators extricated a downed German Do 17 light bomber from its watery grave. Nestled in the muddy bottom of the English Channel, this unidentified bomber was reportedly shot down during the Battle of Britain around the latter half of 1940. According to researchers, this is the only surviving example of the rare Dornier Do 17z light bomber, which aviation museums worldwide have sought to add to their collection.  According to the Mirror, a UK-based publication, historians hope to restore this aircraft to pristine condition in approximately two years, and will likely be featured at the Duxford Museum. For more information on the rescue operation, visit this page.

Since Corgi first brought this matter to our attention, we presume that Corgi will likely produce a diecast replica of this particular Dornier in the not-too-distant-future.
