Dragon to Resume its Armor Production

DRA60584

The latest shipping schedule provided by Dragon shows two new 1:72 scale armor pieces pegged for a late November release. Frankly, we’re taking this information with a grain of salt, since loads of their products were announced some time ago and have yet to materialize. Still, we’re giving them the benefit of the doubt and will wait and see if these two pieces make it in time for the holidays.

DRR60599

The two pieces in question are this Japanese Ka-Mi amphibious vehicle (DRA60584) and a German Sd. Kfz. 231 armored car (DRA60599). Update: We are expecting both of these pieces right before Thanksgiving. Anyone that may have preordered DRA60583 will have his or her order amended to reflect an order for DRA60584.

Dragon Slashes Prices on Several Fan Favorites

DRF18002

Dragon announced a “deep cut” price reduction on a number of items, including many of their Dragon Armor and Dragon Armor Value Plus pieces, as well as a number of action figures. While we no longer stock their dragon figures range, we do still sell their 1:18 scale Michael WIttmann tribute piece (#DRF18001) and Joachim Peiper 1:18 scale replica (#DRF18002), shown here. You can find the entire list of discounted items in our Closeouts section (found in the left hand margin), then under the Dragon sub section.

Keep in mind that these items are subject to availability and can revert to their regular prices should Dragon prematurely decide to end the sale or run out of product.

Dragon Takes the Scenic Route

DRR60671

Several years ago, Dragon launched a line of ancillary pieces called “DiorArmor”, an obvious play on words that combined one of their Dragon Armor pieces with a dioramic base. They seem to have revisited the theme somewhat, by offering a new range of vehicles called PanorArmor. Another play on words (“panorama”), this all-new sub set of vehicles combines several of their more recent releases with scenic, theatre appropriate backgrounds, making them more attractive to look at under glass.

DRR60682a

Four vehicles make up the initial series, all of whom are expected some time in October.

Dragon Drives on El Alamein

DRA60601

The Dragon Armor steam roller seems to have slowed down a tad in recent months, so when we get news that a new armor piece is shipping shortly, we start to get giddy. Rolling out this week is a German Sd. Kfz. 141 PzKpfw III Ausf. N Medium Tank that was attached to schwere Panzer Abteilung 501 of the Deutsches Afrika Korps (#DRA60601), their first Type N Panzer III tank, which bears all the hallmark detail everyone has come to expect from a 1:72 scale Dragon caisson. We are already quite surprised by the number of pre-orders we’ve received for this vehicle, so if you want to jump on board and see if you can claim North Africa from the British 8th Army, then now is the time to fuel up the panzers.

Dragon Reinforces the Afrika Korps

DRA60601

At long last, 1:72 scale armor buffs will soon be able to lay claim to an all-new Panzer III Ausf. N medium tank courtesy of Dragon Armor. Slated for an August release, Dragon’s first Type N Panzer III represents a vehicle that was attached to schwere Panzer Abteilung 501, then deployed to Tunisia from late 1942 to early 1943 (DRA60601). No doubt more Panzer IIIs are in the pipeline, with several already scheduled to bolster their armored brethren later this month.

Dragon Scouts Ahead

DRR60599

Its refreshing to see Dragon getting back on track with their highly successful Dragon Armor line of 1:72 scale military vehicles. Besides releasing a bunch of overdue vehicles, a couple of new product announcements have also been made, including the upcoming release of this German Sd. Kfz. 231 armored car (#DRA60599). Based on a vehicle that participated in the invasion of Russia in 1941, this all-grey replica is expected some time in August, and will no doubt be followed up with other similar vehicles in other liveries.

DRR60529

While we’re all awaiting its debut, we call to your attention the recent release of several Ultimate Armor pieces, including a pair of German VK 45.02 (P)V Ausf. A heavy tanks (#DRR60587 and #DRR60530), a couple of German VK 45.02 (P)H Ausf. A heavy tanks (#DRR60530 and #DRR60588), and two Ersatz M10 tank destroyers (#DRR60529 and #DRR60649).

Dragon Gases Up Their Armored Ranks, Aircraft and Space Vehicles

DRR60531

Finally, Dragon is showing signs of life with plans to roll out several eagerly awaited 1:72 scale armored pieces throughout the month of June. Their first German VK 45.02 (P)H Ausf. A Heavy Tank is already headed to the front lines (DRR60531) as is their second Ersatz M10 tank destroyer (#DRR60649). Several of their Panzer III medium tanks are reportedly not too far behind as is their second German VK 45.02 (P)V Ausf. A Heavy Tank (DRR60587).

DRW51017

Also expected is their 1:144 scale rendition of a USAF Lockheed U-2R Spy Plane, first announced way back in 2012 (#DRW51017). Nicknamed “Dragon Lady”, this all-black reconnaissance bird was attached to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing before being retired.

DRW56391

Lastly, their Space Collection series got a kick in the arse with the release of a 1:400 scale replica of a NASA Space Shuttle Discovery with Crawler Transporter (#DRW56391). Look for these and other exciting new products to show up over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Dragon Makes a Stunning Return

DRR60529

When stalwarts such as Dragon mysteriously disappear from the scene, you have to wonder if something nefarious is going on without your knowledge. For several months running, this company was announcing an ever growing array of new 1:72 scale armor, all of which never seemed to materialize. Fortunately, this may be changing, with two new pieces due to make their debut later this month. The first up for your consideration is an M10 Ersatz tank destroyer (DRR60529), which was used with great success by German commandos during the Battle of the Bulge winter counteroffensive.

DRR60530

Also expected is their first ever German VK 45.02 (P)V Ausf. A heavy tank (DRR60530), which mounts a curved Porsche turret atop the forward deck of a King Tiger chassis. Other variants are expected in May, all designed to round out some of the so-called ‘Paper Panzers’ that were contemplated but never actually deployed en masse against the Western powers. Both vehicles are part of their newly introduced Ultimate Armor collection, with other oddities due out later this year.

Dragon Preps More Armor for its 2013 Assault

DRR60531

No one is more eager to see some of the promised Dragon Armor projects than we are, so its with mixed trepidation and heady anticipation that we unveil Dragon’s first German VK 45.02 (P)H Ausf. A Heavy Tank (DRR60531). Mounting the fearsome Type A turret towards the rear of the vehicle, much like a self-propelled gun, the German VK 45.02 (P)H Ausf. A heavy tank never actually saw military service, although it likely would have been employed to combat the growing array of heavy armor the Allies were throwing at The Third Reich towards the end of WWII. Ship dates are still open for debate, with other previously announced projects still awaiting their turn at bat on store shelves.

Dragon Fires Up the First Panzer III

DRA60578

If reports are true, collectors will soon be able to lay their mitts on the first Dragon Armor Panzerkampfwagen III medium tank — the mainstay of the German Panzerwaffe during the early to mid stages of WWII. According to Dragon’s latest shipment status report, their first vehicle (#DRA60578) is due to ship out shortly, no doubt followed by several of the other Panzer IIIs announced several months back and available in different configurations and patterns. Their inaugural vehicle is based upon an “L” variant, which was equipped with a 50mm gun to stand up to some of the more potent Russian armor they were facing on the eastern front. This particular vehicle was attached to Panzer Regiment 25, 7.Panzer Division, which, despite its mottled winter camouflage scheme, served in southern Russia in early 1943.
