Dragon Returns to Space in a Big Way

DRW52501

Apparently, Dragon’s on-again, off-again Space program has been taken off life support and will soon be offering two 1:48 scale dioramas. First announced way back in 2011, and now showing up again on the Dragon web site, the two upscaled dioramas feature the Apollo 11 “Eagle” Lunar Module (#DRW52501) as well as a matching Apollo 11 Command Service Module (CSM) (#DRW52503).

Unlike their previous 1:72 dioramas, the new and much larger 1:48 scale vignettes boast added-features and detail that could not be integrated into the smaller sets. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that the new sets (along with a handful of previously released 1:72 scale sets now being reissued) will indeed be cleared for liftoff this July.

Dragon Schedules Another Space Shot

50388

A few months back, we were informed that Dragon’s monstrous 1:72 scale Saturn V rocket had sold out, much to the chagrin of many a collector. Today, however, we were told that the ungainly Saturn V (DRW50388) was back in NASA’s cavernous Assembly Building and would be back on the launching pad this September. The price for this item has gone up by a few bucks but considering what you get for the price, this is one “black-and-white” elephant worth bagging before supplies are completely gone.

Dragon Takes a Giant Leap for Mankind

DRW50391

Looking to capitalize on the success of its own private space program, Dragon has announced plans to offer an all-new diorama as part of their burgeoning Dragon Space Collection. Their Apollo 11 scenic pays tribute to mankind’s first manned landing on the moon and contains 1:72 scale reproductions of the Lunar Module (LM), christened Eagle, which landed on the southern Sea of Tranquility, the command module, orbiting overhead, and two scale astronauts, representing mission commander, Neil Armstrong, and Lunar Module Pilot, Buzz Aldrin (#DRW50391). Look for this new set to touchdown some time this summer.

Dragon Fires Up More Rockets

DRW56394

Dragon continues to produce an astounding array of space-related replicas, so it comes as no surprise that they would start to replicate some of the cargo-laden craft being used by NASA to ferry materiel into space.

Two three-packs were recently unveiled – the first modeling a trio of NASA Delta II Rockets w/Launch Pads (#SRW56394) while the second showcases a triumverate of Titan III Rockets w/Launch Pads (#DRW56395). Look for both 1:400 scale sets to blast off this summer.

Dragon Embarks Upon a Space Shot

DRW56391

Looking to pierce the heavens and tear a page out of our space faring play book, Dragon today announced a 1:400 scale replica of the Space Shuttle “Discovery” which comes complete with its Crawler Transporter (DRW56391). According to Dragon’s own marketing literature:

the entire assembly of the Shuttle Discovery (with attached External Tank and two Solid Rocket Boosters) plus the MLP and Tractor-Crawler are produced in minute detail. Fine details such as the track links on the four tractors are all perfectly replicated. Even areas that are hidden (e.g. the inside surface of the MLP) are all fully furnished and painted. Discovery had the honor of conducting more flights than any other Shuttle – 39 missions spread over 27 years – and this astonishing Space Collection model from Dragon Wings is the perfect way to commemorate its accomplishments.

Currently, this all-new set is scheduled for a March lift off, and carries into orbit a very affordable price of just $89.99. Godspeed Discovery!
